One of my favorite and most effective ways to fish is with a lipless crank bait. Now I have looked at and fished a lot of lipless cranks in the past and I have narrowed it down to 3 brands: lucky Craft's, Xcaliburs, and my new favorite the ima rock n' vibe. I finished 6th at Clear Lake fishing a rocky hump to a grass transition and docks. I figured out that they were wanting it in all different retrieves throughout the day, slow during the day and burned with rips mixed in during the morning hours. I really enjoy fishing with the ima's... the rock n' vibe is probably one of the best lipless baits out there. I had boats hitting my spot all day long for 2 days in a row but it still pulled out for me.
First day I made the trip out to a spot in the south end of Clear Lake. I had pre fished the two previous weeks of the tournament and did really well and decided to focus my time in at this one spot. So first off in the morning I found the bigger ones weren't up on the hump but were on the outer edge of it just hanging on the deeper water side. I began fishing on the hump as I saw a few fish busting on schools of silver sides. I quickly caught my limit (4 fish) doing that but it only managed to be about 6lbs which just isn't going to cut it at Clear Lake, I needed an upgrade bad. O I began throwing my swimmer around and was getting short striked out on the deeper parts. Thats when I picked up the Ima Rock n' Vibe and started getting em'! I quickly culled out my small fish for a limit of about 9lbs. The bite shut off and I moved away to start fishing some docks with my 6" Trash Fish. I grinded it out all day picking up only 2 more fish the ended up putting my 4 fish limit at 13.34lbs day one.
Day two, my main focus was going to be the swim bait. I felt as if I could fill out a GOOD limit on the swim bait. On the first day I left a few spots alone for the next day to come back to. Straight away I went there and nothing. I was worried as I didn't get my first keeper til 10 a.m. on the Ima lipless which was only 3lbs. I said to my self I was going to fish docks as thorough as possible picking each and every one apart with my Trash Fish. I caught one on it, finally, about a 5.5lber which made me happy. I ended up missing about 6 more fish that were over 4lbs on the Trash Fish which most likely cost me the win at the tournament. I later had to switch up to a senko and pick the docks apart even more ending up with only 11.05lbs.
